Plastic pitch to benefit game, says Newcastle Falcons lock MacLeod

Scottish lock forward Scott MacLeod says the new synthetic pitch that is set to be installed at Kingston Park ahead of the new season would be perfect for his running game.

Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Newcastle Falcons have announced plans to move forward with the installation of plastic pitches at their home ground amidst fears that it will cause injury problems for the players, but MacLeod doesn’t believe it will have any negative impact on his game.

Newcastle defeated Leeds in the most demoralising of fashions in the battle of the bottom two clubs at Headingley.

Falcons made the perfect start after seven minutes with Ally Hogg’s try before Jimmy Gopperth added two penalties shortly before the break.

Newcastle extended their lead with two more Gopperth kicks to make it 17-0.

Leeds’ consistent errors and Falcons’ stern defending restricted the hosts to Scott Freer’s 65th-minute try before Jeremy Manning sealed the victory.
